because it is their intention to build a pier out in continua➡

tion of it for deep draft s-teamers in order to deal with silk

traffic, which it is important should lie about as little as

possible, and the loaded straight away in covered goods waggone. It is now agreed that in order to get to this point the beat

alignment is to go down Salisbury Road as shown on Plans I and II avoiding the lots as far as the Time Ball altogether and com- plying with the requirements of the owners of Lots 74 and 75. Such an alignment preserves & forty foot Road without crossing any siding to our own land at Blackheads and to Holt's, allowa for a Flag Station, and the laying of a tramway and provides &

good access for the tramway to Nathan Road. The solitary objection is the cutting up of the Salisbury Road, with which

it is hard to sympathise. A glance at the plan will explain

the position, For suppose the terminus were, after all, located

at Tsim Tea Tsui the only use of maintaining Salisbury Road

would be to give access to our own land at Blackheads and to

Holt'e Godowns, and to Lots 74 and 75 and to run a tram line on.

9. In such a case it could never be contemplated that the tram

line should cross the sharply carved Main Line of the Railway

by the corner of Lot 618 at the very entry, and within the working limits of an important station yard, at a place where

shunting would be going on constantly and atabout as dangerous

a place from a signalling point of view as it is possible to

conceive. The proposed cutting up of Salisbury Road leaves the

position unaltered as regards the approaches to Blackheads, Holts

and Lots 74 and 75 and provides for a much more convenient location for the Tram line which avoids crossing the Railway

altogether unless the Tram be carried to the Ferry Wharf, in which

case the crossing would only be over a part of the siding which

would be used about once a day, and that at a time to suit the

convenience of the Tram. It may be urged against the proposal
